Biography
Prof. Hong Gil Nam received his Ph.D. degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA in 1985. From 1986 to 1988, He had worked at the Harvard Medical School as a research fellow. He is a pioneer in plant molecular genetics, especially in the field of leaf aging, senescence and plant photoresponses including circadian clock related component. His further research interests cover molecular bioimaging technology and chemical genomics. He established the Korean Society for Bioinformatics and Systems Biology in 1999, and has served as the President of Asian Association of Bioinformatics Societies and as a fellowship review committee member in Human Frontier Science Program. He is a founding member of the Department of Life Sciences and the School of Interdisciplinary Bioscience and Bioengineering (I-Bio), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) where he served until 2012. He is also the founding editor of the new open access, open review journal, Interdisciplinary Bio Central. Recognition of his achievements has led him to be selected as one of the National Scholars of Korea in 2010. Currently he is the director of Center for Plant Aging Research, Institute for Basic Science (IBS) & a founding member of & Fellow Professor of the Department of New Biology, DGIST.
